Musical Stings

A checker asked me (Pat) if I would make the musical stings available that I use between segments on the show. Here they are.

This one is built on the isolated drum track from Oasis’ “Wonderwall”:

I think this was something I was messing around with on a long train ride. If I remember correctly the drums are from an Omar Hakim sample pack.

Obviously the opening fill and the rest of the drums don’t match.  I must have stuck them together with something in mind:

Something I wrote for the pitch of another podcast I don’t have time to make.  One of the few stings where I am actually playing all the instruments.

Built on the isolated drums from Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Give It Away”:

Not sure what I was thinking on this one.  I probably just thought the ambient guitar line was cool.

Barry “Physics Commando” was again a guest on the show and we figured it was time to give him his own parody!   This week its of Pink Floyd’s iconic “Another Brick In The Wall Part 2.”  All in all its just another myth that will fall!

This week’s parody is of 50 Cent’s In Da Club.   Factoid:  50 was sued by 2 Live Crew frontman, Luther Campbell, for the lines “it’s your birthday” suggesting that this had be plagiarized from his track “Freak For Life.”   The lawsuit was dismissed with the decision that the phrase was “common, unoriginal and noncopyrightable.”

We like big facts and we cannot lie!  This week’s show kicked off with a segment about whether the word “lardass” was auto correcting to “Kardashian” on iPhones.  Surely there has never been a better opportunity to do a parody of Sir Mix-A-Lot’s Baby Got Back.

Episode 382 has honorary TRC-er Dallas Card back for a visit.   Dallas gives us a look into the world of “Deep Learning,” a kind of machine learning.   In his honour, we did a parody of Elle King’s Ex’s and Oh’s  with the lyrics “zero and ones”.

Friend of the show and emergency physician Dr. Ken Milne joins the panel for this week’s show and gives us an interesting segment on knowledge translation.   Ken is also the host of The Skeptics Guide To Emergency Medicine.  Of course, he had to have his very own parody and Calling Dr. Love by Kiss seemed a good candidate!

In honour of Dr. Stuart Robbins aka @DrAstroStu returning to the show to talk about Pluto and New Horizons, we thought he deserved his own parody!  Pink’s “Get The Party Started” seemed to pack the right punch.

Cristina took over this week’s show with a mash-up episode all about women.    This led to an hilarious photoshopped image to go along with the episode and a parody of Single Ladies by Beyonce.
